Health Insurance Why do they need my Social Security Number?

I am enrolling threw my employer for health insurance why do they need my SS number? I Do they run it threw anything? or is it just for internal use?

Most of the time its for internal records but sometimes its used to check previous medical records.

It is just for internal use to verify with your employer, and sometime the payroll company to make sure deductions are taken out from the right person.Only a few insurance company's actually use or SS# for your ID#, that practice has really slowed since Identity theft has become so high.

It verifies who you are.  If you don't provide it, you won't get the insurance.
