  1. It depends upon the plan and coverage you get and also your location. In my state you could get a BC plan anywhere from $57 per month up to $427 per month.

Blue Cross is not always the best; you'll need to find the best plan for you. If the doctor you want to see doesn't accept BC it's not the best plan for you. If you get one of the basic plans don't expect everything to be covered.

Visit a local agent that works with BC and also all the other major companies in your area. The agent can find the best plan for your situation and budget. There is no extra charge using an agent.

  2. $200 a month.

  3. Ultimately, you are the one who determines the affordability of your health insurance plan by deciding how much you will participate in sharing the cost of your health care with your insurance company.

You need a trusted adviser to help you through the process of purchasing health insurance so that you understand what you are purchasing. Some may suggest going on line to get a quote but you probably already know that there is much more to health insurance than price.

If you choose a plan that covers everything i.e. doctors office visits, prescription drugs, preventative health benefits, maternity coverage as well as low deductibles and low copays your monthly premiums will be significant.

On the other hand because you are young and I presume healthy and probably rarely use the health care system you could consider a plan that covers only the major health catastrophe which will result in a relatively low monthly premium. You then can use the monthly premium savings to pay for the occasional doctor visit and still come out ahead.

Check with the agent that writes your home or auto insurance he/she can provide you a health insurance proposal that takes into account your budget and health situation.

Use the Internet to educate yourself but use an agent to purchase the coverage.

  4. whos to say that one carrier is better than another??

i work in insurance and i know from experience that the majority of them are all the same. they are all mandated by the state and federal govt to an extent, but they are all relatively the same, to remain competitive.

no one here will be able to give you an accurate figure... as the rates depend on your age, geographical location, plan type (hmo, ppo), etc...
