my wife is due for a health and safety assessment so she can work from home. What would be the things they like to fail people on?

  1. She will have to have the same H&S requirements at home as she would in her Corporate Office building.

    In real terms this would mean that she would have to completed a Display Screen Equipment Assessment. This checks the ergonomics of the workstation:

    is the monitor fully adjustable for height and angle;

    is the keyboard separate from the monitor (this means that if she uses a laptop then she must also have a separate monitor plugged in);

    is the chair fully adjustable for height, rake and swivel (she has no choice - it's the law);

    is the screen suffering from glare or reflection (if so then windows must be shielded and lights screened);

    are there any trailing leads or multiple extension blocks;

    is the ambient noise level satisfactory;

    is the ambient temperature satisfactory?

    The most likely cause of failure will be either something to do with the monitor and/or the lighting.
