Question:

Health insurance and step children?

While I was filling out forms to change my husbands insurance coverage to include me and my oldest children I noticed that they charge an extra $73.04 for 2 step-children. They are not considered regular dependants. I was the parent who carried insurance but when we moved to Wisconsin that changed and my ex-husband now has to carry insurance as part of his child support court order. We have been here for just about 2 yrs and he has not had any insurance at all yet. The child support that he is ordered to pay per week barely covers the new insurance amount we will be paying leaving only $3/week. They figure his child support as a portion of all necessary bills which $3 will not cover anything. Can I take him back to court and raise the child support to cover the extra insurance cost since he is ordered to carry the health insurance or is this just another thing that he can just get away with not paying?

  1. If he was ordered to pay for insurance and has neglected to pay for over 2 years, I cannot see a judge NOT increasing your support to pick up the cost your husband is paying to insure your kids.

Take his lousy butt back to court.

  2. Yes, you can.  So file away.  You should be able to get the $73.04 easily (but not the entire amount since you are also covered as the base family member).
