Question:

Health insurance bill?

my mom told me that Bush passed a bill this year that says that even if your kids are not in college they can be apart of your family health insurance plan until they are 24 years old. I know it used to be that you had to be a full time student to be allowed on your parents health insurance. Does anyone know anything about this?

  1. havnt heard of it

  2. It would be a state bill, but usually it's going to require you to be a dependent which means under their roof not living separate AND not in college.  I would highly doubt it anyway.

  3. Well...first of all, the President doesn't pass legislation.  Congress does.  :)

But to answer your question...no, there was no such federal bill passed.

Unless you live in a state that has a state law regarding student age (there are a few, I think...New Jersey comes to mind as an example), then you have to show proof of full time student status once you hit the age where its required on your policy.

  4. It depends on where you live.

The student requirement was dropped where I live about a year ago. So as long as you are unmarried, under twenty-four years of age and financially dependent upon your parents, you would be eligible.

Call your states insurance commissioner's office to make sure.

    Don
