  1. You may want to consider a health savings account or at least choose a plan with a very high deductible.

    This way you will have a very low monthly cost but if you choose a reputable company will still have coverage in case you ever get hit with a large medical bill.

    Here is some more information finding cheap health insurance and specifically on finding health insurance in New York:

  2. Have you looked at Family Health Plus? They offer affordable health care for NYC residents, and it's intended for income levels just above medicaid limits.

    On their front page:

    Adults, with or without children, can join if they:

        * Are between the ages of 19 to 64

        * Meet income criteria

        * Are a New York State resident

        * Are a US citizen (or have certain immigration status)

        * Have no health insurance

        * Are not eligible for Medicaid

        * Live in New York City

  3. With all the different health carriers and plans available most people really should use a health insurance broker. A Broker represents multiple carriers and can help you sort through all the different insurance companies and plan options in your state.

    For example a typical broker can have access to 10 major carriers and 60 different plans just for one state.

    You can try doing your own research on the internet, but if you give a good broker 5 minutes they will be able to make suggestions on which carrier may fit you best.

    I suggest using yellowpages.com to search for health insurance brokers in your area.

    Don't call your auto and home agent they specialize in property and causality insurance. You need someone that specializes in health insurance.

    Good Luck

  4. I just came across this website, you may find many useful information on health insurance quotes, hopefully may help you:

  5. Many schools require that students have health insurance.  First, check with your college or university.  Your school may offer a student health plan, which may be affordable and may meet your needs.  If you don’t have a school option or it’s too expensive or you don’t qualify for it, find out what kinds of coverage your school may require you to have.  Then talk with a licensed agent in your area or with one of the licensed agents at eHealthInsurance (where I work) at 1-800-977-8860.  You can also visit our website, eHealthInsurance.com, to review free quotes from some of the leading health insurance companies in your area, and to apply for coverage online.

    Good luck!

  6. See if you can get on the plan with your school.
