Question:

Health insurance for families of disabled vets?

I am a 50% disabled Vet living near Dallas, Tx. I have been unable to find a job that offers health insurance, as of yet. I know I can go to the VA for free, whenever I need to. I need to find some sort of insurance for my wife. We are planning children, but I don't want to pay all of those doctor bills out of pocket. My wife is self employed, so there's no way of her getting it through work. Does anyone know of a Veterans group health insurance plan or anything like that? I have searched all over the internet with little success. T

Thanks for any info.

  1. Talk to a local broker, there may well be a way that your Self-employed wife would be able to get group insurance.  Alternatively, talk to a representative about TriCare, and see if you can add your family to that plan.  I know a Marine who added his mother onto his TriCare policy in order to take care of her recently diagnosed cancer.

Failing that, look into HSA-compatible plans.  You'll come a little more out of pocket in your medical bills, but there are all kinds of tips and tricks to make that pay off in the long run.  Talk to a good broker about how to make that work for you.

  2. Your wife could take out an individual plan.  Please see link below to find insurance quotes and helpful advice on the application process.

If your wife applies for individual insurance, she will need to make sure you wait at least 1 year before planning on having children.  The insurance company will have a probationary period of about 3 months where you will need to be on good behavior.  They will want to make sure the pregnancy was not a pre-existing condition you did not disclose, which will put your wife at risk of termination of coverage if that happens.

There is no "great deal" on insurance, there is only varying coverages.  Check out my site for more details, and take care.

  3. Well, a couple of things you might want to consider.I've had good luck here...http://health-insurance.expert-tip.info/...

  4. Nothing I know of, but you might try asking DAV or American Legion.
