I applied for health insurance and they tell me it takes 2-4 weeks for approval. I want to know what happens in those weeks. I just got an update that their reviewing the application. I don't have any pre-existing medical conditions.

  1. Slow company.

  2. The application will be sent to the company's underwriter for review. If you don't have any pre-existing conditions and answered no to all the health questions it should take less than two weeks. The only reason for it to take longer is if the insurance company needs medical records. They will request the records from you doctor and/or from the MIB. Getting the records from the doctor is what takes so long. I've had doctors delay up to 4 or 5 weeks answering the request.

  3. No, they aren't going to request medical records, unless you file any weird claims in the next six months.

The majority of that time, the app will just be sitting on someone's desk waiting to be processed.
