Question:

Health insurance questions...?

My health insurance is provided by and paid for by my employee.

They are changing insurances effective Sept 1st; I'm scheduled for

surgery on Sept 8th through the other company. How does this work? Do my deductibles that I've paid roll over?

  1. As Chris said, no one here could possibly know if the deductible will roll over or not.  It entirely depends on how the new plan is set up.

  2. Deductibles may or may not roll over.  It's different from plan to plan, and insurance company to insurance company.  Ask your boss to ask your broker, because you have the right to know.

Even if your group isn't claims ready, or you haven't gotten your cards in the mail, you should be fine.  You can get temporary ones, or simply tell your doctor to call a number after you tell him your policy # and group #.

Effective September 1st, you have insurance.  All you need to do is show them "proof of loss".  Ask your broker how to get a form, or visit the new company's website, or call them.  Anything that happens to you from Sept. 1st and on is covered... unless you didn't have health insurance for a full year before the switch without a 63-day break in coverage (insurance law)

    Everything is ooooook.

  3. You will have to ask your employer or HR Dept. Usually, they do roll over.

However, you will also need to be sure that you follow pre-certification and/or authorization requirements with the new company as well. So make sure all this is in order before you have your surgery.
