Hello,

I'm traveling into Canada this summer with a few friends for a long over due drive down to San Diego. (Alaska, yukon, coast of california, etc) anyway, My question Is: My health is not always the best, And for some reason I were to decline on the way, through Canada what am I going to expect at the Hospital there?

I do know they have an American Rate, but is it cheaper ? free for me as it is for the Canadians?

Thank you all so much

  1. NO medical treatment would not be free to you.  You need to get travel health insurance.  If you have a pre-existing though, getting coverage could be a major problem for you.  From what I understand, health care costs in Canada are generally comperable wtih those in the USA.

  2. Without a Canadian healthcard you would not get free healthcare. You would be treated but you would have to pay.

  3. I usually have an easy time, but, its not free, and the wait lines are horrendous at times

  4. the hospitals in Canada would treat you if you fall ill but you would have to pay the full cost of treatment. You will receive very good care but at a cost

the medical plan is for Canadians only

  5. YOu should have travel insurance if you feel that you may need hospitalization.  If you have a prior condition however you may find it hard to find insurance that will cover this.

Although costs in Canada are generally lower than in the US you will be responsible for any medical costs incurred.  Each province in Canada runs it's own health care system and citizens of the province belong to that.  Although plans for one province can assist a person in another province people from outside of the country have to pay for any costs.

  6. If you don't have health insurance the minimum charge is $400 and the overnight rate is $2200/day at the hospital in my town.  Then there are separate charges for any special care you might need.

Make sure you have insurance.  Our free healthcare is only for Canadian citizens who have a healthcare card.
