Healthcare in Europe?

This question is for the Europeans out there.

Here in America, a lot of people complain about how people take advantage of the welfare system and are afraid that people would take advantage of a social health care system if a large-scale one were to come into existence.

In European countries where socialized health care exists, is there a big problem with people "taking advantage" of the health care?

  1. depends on who you talk to, in the UK there is a problem with people missing appointments and the such as they don't see the direct cost to themselves. Another problem is health tourists who come from overseas and get a certain level of treatment for free, as the NHS will not turn anyone away in an emergency.

Overall most people in the UK are proud of the NHS and to turn it into a system in the US would be impossible because of the opposition to such an idea. More and more though ideas are coming about that if you don't look after yourself, e.g bad diet, smoking, although nothing firm has been put into law.

  2. Health care, S-Chip, Social Security are all pro-life. Why republican don't back them is beyond me. Maybe they're hypocrites.
