Question:

Healthiest Alcoholic Beverage?

by  |  earlier

I know drinking alcohol is not exactly healthy, but I really like to go out to bars on the weekends. I know wine is pretty okay to drink but most bars have crappy wine. What is an alcoholic beverage that would a) taste good to a girl & b) be at least semi healthy?

  1. Craft beers...especially bottle fermented and dark ones.

PS. In the US it is Pear Cider, in the UK it is Perry. Regional dialect differences, but both are correct terms.

  2. I don't like heavy alcohol beverage also. When I go to the bar, my favorite beverage are coconut Malibu with pineapple and orange juice, Amaretto sour, Midori sour, Victoria Secret, Mai Thai.

  3. Madras (cranberry vodka with an OJ float and lime wedge,  Vit C at least)

Craft beer.  Monks considered beer a food.

  4. Get a vodka cranberry, it's cheap, has the least amount of congeners in it, and cranberry juice is good for you.

  5. first, wine.  then, try any spirit you like (i do vodka)  then mix it with half club soda, and half juice of your choice ( I like grapefruit or cran)  then alternate, every other drink, just get club soda with lime or some juice, that way you always have a drink in hand.  Also, get top shelf vodka-it is more filtered and will leave you with less of a hangover.

  6. Pear cider. It has a more refined taste than normal cider and a good pear cider (perrier) can rival even the best wines.

  7. If you mean low calorie drinks...you know drinks that aren't gut busters, you should check out these lower calorie cocktail options...it also gives a calorie/ounce breakdown for many different liquors.

  8. red wine from Italy its totally disgusting too

  9. i heard wine is good.

  10. Actually, moderate alcohol consumption is proven to have health benefits.  One to two alcohol-containing drinks per day decreases your risk of heart disease and stroke by 66% and one drink per day decreases your risk of cancer by 50%.  Moderate alcohol consumption has also shown to lower "bad" cholesterol and (although I'm not implying you're older) decrease your chance of Alzheimer's and dementia.

As for what is healthiest, red wine contains polyphenols and dark beer contains melanoidins, both of which have strong anti-oxidant properties.  You should be able to get good wine even at an average bar (a popular wine from Australia is very widely available and is pretty good for for the price).

P.S. Pear cider (fermented pear juice), while delicious, is called "perry" not "perrier."

  11. Beer is fairly healthy in comparison with a lot of drinks.

-The folate found in beer may help to reduce homocysteine in the blood and lower homocysteine levels mean a lower risk of cardiovascular disease.

-Lab studies have found constituents in beer that lower triglycerides and LDL-cholesterol in mice.

-Drinking one beer per day reduces blood clotting so some studies found that cardiovascular patients who drank one beer per day also lived longer.

the health thing goes out the window when you're drinking a couple to get drunk, but Beer is still a decent drink.

  12. Nyquil.

Ok, not technically a beverage, but healthier than other liquids also  containing alcohol.
