  1. dog will be tasty

  2. You will find many vegetarian restaurants with so many curries to choose! Lots of Southern cities have Muslim influences so you might find meat food too but just ask for a vegetarian restaurant and you will not mistake.

  3. just to warn you that you shouldnt drink coconut oil as it pure fat .. hence the oil part in the title

if you drank it you will pile the pounds on instantly

However you can drink the coconut milk .. which is a clear transparent liquid

  4. I agree with "Hope for the Best", SI food is generally healthy and very tasty.  There are many dishes that do not use coconut or palm oil.  You will find lots of vegetarian dishes: try the local regional foods.  South India is famous for it's idlis (steamed lentil patties) which are very very healthy.  They are eaten with a lentil/vegetable curry known as sambhar.  SI crepes (dosas) are also famous and very healthy.  Try the rice dishes like lemon rice or tamarind rice.  As far as drinks are concerned, tea is the best.  Be careful of the drinking water, but try some fresh fruit juices:  mango, guava,

    sweet lime.....

Eat well and in moderation and in India, you will do alot of walking so just enjoy the trip!

  5. Veggie Southern Indian food is so delicious (if a little hot!) I'm veggie too. Utthapam is nice. It's a savoury pancake with chopped onions and other begetables. Idly is a south Indian specialty. They are basically steam cooked, soft rice cakes which are like small flying saucer shaped. They're usually served with a coconut based chutney and a bowl/portion of "sambar" which is a spicy soup/dip. You will also find Dosas on the menu which are crispy round pancakes which are folded around a filling of spicy vegetables. For drinks, you will probably find Lassi which is a yogurt drink (a bit like Yop). Lassi can be drunk sweetened with sugar or mango or a salted version (which I find a bit too bland for me!) Drinking or eating plain yogurt helps reduce the spiciness and heat of the dish better than other drinks.
