Healthnet coverage?

does healthnet cover the cost of gastric bypass surgery or lap band, does anyone know? we live in socal.

If it is a group policy most likely yes.  If you have an individual policy and you were overweight when you purchased the policy most likely no.  I checked with my agent about this for my daughter.

Not many insurance companies will cover it, but it will depend on the plan.

It's not covered, because it's not an effective long term tool for weight loss.  Most people are back up to their old weight - or more - within five years of having the surgery.

It depends upon which plan you have, the only way to know is to contact your agent.

Most don't but those plans that do also have limits and they'll only pay for the procedure as a last resort. You have to have a BMI greater than 40, it must be recommended by your doctor, and you'll have to go through a series of weight reduction programs.
