Everyone in my office is constantly bringing in cakes, biscuits and chocolate, especially on birthdays. It is my birthday next week and I would like to bring something healthy in instead of cakes but something that everyone will still like and still want to eat. Any ideas for tasty alternatives to cakes and biscuits?

  1. i agree with the fruit idea. create (or buy a pre-made) fruit platter with some old favorites and some more exotic fruits that people may not have tried before. http://thefoody.com/basic/fruitindex.htm... for info on some different fruits and how to serve them.

provide some different options for dipping (caramel sauce, peanut butter, equal amounts marshmallow creme + cream cheese, maybe some white chocolate for berries or sliced cheese with apples, etc. etc.) provide a variety of options and let people mix and match. everyone's bound to find something they like.

(could also serve some mixed nuts or pretzels or something)

  2. probably the pizzas n some soft drinks n after that some ice cream

  3. They have places that make like fruit bouqets. They basically look like a big bouqet of flowers but they are made out of fruit and they taste amazing! You could set out some yogurt to dip it in and I think that is a lot better than eating cake :)

  4. Try this recipe:

    Angel Lush with Pineapple

    Prep Time: 15 min

Total Time: 1 hr 15 min

Makes: 10 servings, one piece each

1 pkg. (4-serving size) JELL-O Vanilla Flavor Instant Pudding & Pie Filling

1 can (20 oz.) DOLE Crushed Pineapple in Juice, undrained

1 cup thawed COOL WHIP Whipped Topping

1 prepared round angel food cake (10 oz.)

    10 fresh strawberries

MIX dry pudding mix and pineapple in medium bowl. Gently stir in whipped topping.

CUT cake horizontally into three layers. Place bottom cake layer on serving plate; top with one-third of the pudding mixture. Repeat layers two times.

REFRIGERATE at least 1 hour. Top with strawberries just before serving. Store leftovers in refrigerator.

I made this for my husband (german chocolate cake fan) and he LOVED it!   Good luck!  :o)

  5. quiche is a good alternative, baklawa is a good greek sweet dish, pizza or pasta is great for lunch, a cup of chilled strawberry with cream or mousse is a nice alternative.

  6. Not sure if you are doing this in the morning or later but there are some healthy bagels out there with low cal spreads. Also, a fruit tart is great.

You have a little bit of the "pie" idea but you have healthy fruit on top instead of frosting. If it's later in the day you could have a big vegetable tray with a couple of good dips and some healthy wheat crackers or triscuits.

  7. A fruit salad would be good to have with the cakes to try to tone down on all the sugar going on.

  8. Muffins would be a good alternative ...  Or you could bring in a SPINACH DIP (use the recipe on the package of Knorr Vegetable Soup mix).  I cut the top off a sourdough round, and put the dip into it; replace the top and refrigerate.  Serve with sliced baguettes around it ...(You could also have some celery sticks to dip)....

  9. Bagels with different flavors of cream cheese.

These go over well in our office. Especially since most people put them out right away in the morning so it's like a breakfast too.
