Question:

Healthy Ambrosia Salad?

I was just wondering if anyone thought of Ambrosia salad as a slightly healthy alternative desert. Using of course, fat free sour cream or cool whip, and light options for canned (or better yet fresh) fruit.

It seems like it could be decent,.. am I wrong?

and an idea approx. how many calories? I guess I can figure that out once I have all the ingredients and labels :)

  1. i've usually made ambrosia fruit salad not so sure abt how many colories it holds but its quite healthy

    AMBROSIA FRUIT SALAD

1 (20 oz.) can pineapple chunks, drained

1 (11 oz.) can mandarin oranges, drained

    1 1/2 c. seedless grapes, halved

    1 c. miniature marshmallows

    1 c. flaked coconut

    1/2 c. chopped nuts

    3/4 c. sour cream

    1 tbsp. sugar

Combine pineapple, oranges, grapes, marshmallows, coconut, and nuts. Mix together sour cream and sugar. Stir fruit mixture. Chill. Makes 4-6 servings.

  2. My mom used vanilla yogurt in her ambrosia.  It wasn't until I was an adult that I realized the "classic" ambrosia contained sour cream!  Mom's was always really good.

  3. I always use heavy whipping cream in my Ambrosia....  But, have you considered a Tropical Ambrosia with sliced oranges, cubed pineapple, papaya and mango and sprinkled with coconut?  You wouldn't need any creamy sauce at all with that....
