Question:

Healthy Student food?

I have recently moved out and I am having trouble being creative with food.. Its really easy just ordering or buying frozen foods but I don't want to do that often.. The healthiest I can get just now with food is cooking pasta, but its the same every time and its getting a little dull! Any ideas for stuff to cook which is fairly cheap, easy to prepare and healthy-ish?

Thanks! :-P

  1. f**t in a Bottle. very healthy.

    :)

  2. I would buy canned soups and add carrots, squash, and other veggies that you like.

Or you can buy already made chicken from costco and from that  chicken make yourself a chicken salad:

Boil Potatoes, peel of the skin,

    Mash them.

get frozen peas and carrots, cook them in water once ready, let them cool, then add them to the mash potatoes.

Mix the potatoes, peas and carrots, chicken, and add mayo. If its too dry, add a little water from the peas and carrots and some black peper and a dash of salt. Its really easy and I like to eat mine on Tosatadas or with bread (like a sandwhich)

If you still have left over chicken, make a chicken sandwhich... be creative.

I would also recommend buying things like Rice-a-roni and adding real chicken and vegetables. Since you live alone, go to costco and buy frozen vegetables. They last longer and you can eat healthy. When i buy perishable food, i forget to cook and it rotts,...

I also like making manwhiches, its just sloppy joes and i go to my local market and buy 3 pounds of ground beef and burger buns and voila.

Make yourself steaks, (just add seasoning salt to it)Your fave. Steak sauce,

wrap a potatoe in aluminum and stick it in the oven,

buy canned corn, cook it just add butter. There you have a steak, baked potatoe, and corn dinner.

  3. Make soups and store them up in 1-2 serving size containers.  Most soups can be frozen in ziplock freezer bags (lie flat to take up the least amount of space) to eat later, but within six months.

    Here is a quickie -

Dice up a ham steak, a potato and a small onion.

Add a package of frozen mixed vegetables.

Add in about a half-tsp of salt, a half-tsp of herbes de provence and a twist or two or three of black pepper (or about 1/4 tsp).

Cover with water and add a chicken bouillon

Bring to a boil, then simmer for 20 minutes or so until potatoes are cooked.

This makes about 6-8 servings and you can easily freeze half for another time.

    Good luck!

  4. well you can buy frozen veggies well can't give you fresh ideas that many of them due to the  only few way you can cook and store them. cook frozen veggies. you got veggie burger. buy pita bread, sandwich things. you can put same in the pita some time. make cheese melts in the micro. put more stuff in the pasta like parma cheese or mozz: on the top or mix it if the pieces r big. smoothies if have the blender. cooked chicken put in the veggies and soy souse. italian sausage and  frozen peppers. same thing can go in the pasta sometime. try to stock up on things that don't need to be cold since only certain size fridge is allowed. noodle  with soy low sodium kind may be hot souse can go too. whole wheat crackers with some cheeses. only some time canned soups with heavy whole wheat crackers. put sausages on the screws rice can be cooked in the microwave put some frozen veggies or cooked chicken they have mostly or buy the big one cooked left over can go in the rice. rice and canned or frozen beans. some frozen Quesadillas they have in frozen section mac and who? tortillas don't go bad any time soon stock up cheese same veggies ok slowly you will get ideas of your own . just keep rotating after a while.due to small fridge.
