Question:

Healthy eating, food pyramids, iron intake .. I'm lost! Please help?

Hi guys, I'm trying to put on weight and I need a little assistance. I recently went to the doctor and she told me I'm low on iron - she gave me an info sheet with high iron foods and how much iron each contains. I remember she told me that I had to take a minimum of 12mgs of iron daily, but I lost the sheet so I'm having trouble keeping count!

Does anyone know if there are any iron charts/info sheets or whatever they're called, anywhere on the net? With a list of high iron foods and how much iron each contains?

Also .. Instead of just eating MORE, I assume it's better to eat the right foods. But I have no idea how much, and of what. In all honesty, I know pretty much nothing about healthy diets .. so can anyone point me in the right direction?

I'd really appreciate specific quantities and types of food for both iron and just the normal stuff a person should eat each day. That way, I can make a list and tick off all the things I've eaten and keep track of how much I still have to eat.

Thanks in advance, for all your help!

  1. This is a pretty good site. http://www.healthcastle.com/high-iron-di... They also have a lot of resources for just healthy eating in general. Good Luck :)

  2. Healthy, right and balance eating is not really complicated. If we know exactly the approximate ratio calorie composition of good carbohydrate (40%); good protein (30%) and good fat (30%), the food choice will be much fun to do.

We don't have to restrict ourselves with such precise calorie counting or to be hungry. Just choose:

    1. good, high fiber, low calorie carbohydrate like: whole wheat bread, grain and high fiber cereals, most vegetables , apples, pears, and slow cooking oats,

    2. good low cholesterol protein source like: non fat milk. one egg a day, breast of chicken or turkey skinless, veal, beans, all kind of fish and sea foods.

    3. good fat: extra virgin olive oil, canola oil, nuts, beans, soy oil,  fresh canola oil margarine. Don't use oil to deep fry or avoid deep frying food as it contain harmful trans fat.

If you get used with selecting good food stuff you will enjoy more comfortable tasty, hunger free, healthy, right and balance eating.

Try to learn and you will like it.
