Question:

Healthy late night snacks?

We are hosting a party this weekend at a local pub, but since we do not plan on staying there all night, we want to invite our guests back to our house for an "after party." Even though we will have had some food and drinks at the pub, I still feel like we should provide some snacks at our house. I'm trying to steer clear of super sugary snacks, as it will be late night. Also looking for something simple that can be quickly prepared when we get back to the house. Thanks!

  2. It's an old kids' favorite, but grown-ups often also enjoy "bumps on a log."  Cut a celery stalk into 2" to 3" lengths.  Spread with peanutbutter and dot with raisins.  Make these ahead of time.  They don't need to be kept in the fridge.  I personally prefer to lighten the peanutbutter by mixing some margarine into it.  It spreads better and doesn't stick to the roof of one's mouth so much.

This makes a great casual snack that doesn't cost too terribly much.  Make these, and then splurge on some good cheeses and nice crackers to go with them.

  3. fruit and veggies

  4. I would do a simple antipasto tray - smoked meats or salami, different cheeses, artichoke hearts, roasted red peppers, olives and then some crusty bread slices..simple, elegant, easy!

  5. How about a nice tray of fruits and veggies and cheese?  How about those 100 calorie snack packs you can buy now at Target or grocery stores?  You could have hummus...that's a great snack and good for you!  How about low-fat or low-sodium or less butter Popcorn and Kettlecorn?  How about Planters mixed nuts?

  6. OH!  Sounds like fun!

There are a few things you could prepare ahead of time, such as:  Lil' Smokies  in BBQ Sauce -- 2 pkgs of Lil' Smokies (small wieners), 1 bottle of BBQ sauce and a crockpot.  Open the smokies and place in crockpot, pour the sauce over the smokies, and turn the crockpot on low.  When you return home, place them on a serving dish or you can leave them in the crockpot.  They can be served with toothpicks or scooped up with serving spoon.  Serve raw carrots, celery sticks and cauliflower floweretts with a low-fat dressing or low-fat dip as a side snack.  This will give your guests a little protein as well as good nutrients, in case they have had too much to drink.

  7. Eggs :-Devilled Curried

    8 large hard-boiled eggs

    1/3 cup mayonnaise

2 tablespoons finely snipped spring onions

    1 teaspoon curry powder

    Salt

    Freshly ground black pepper

Peel the eggs and cut them lengthwise in half.

Remove the yolks and place in a small bowl.

Mash the yolks until smooth and add the mayonnaise. Mix until a smooth paste forms.

Mix in the spring onions, curry powder, and salt and pepper to taste.

Spoon the mixture into the egg halves, or pipe using a pastry bag and star tip.

Cover and refrigerate for up to 8 hours before serving.

    Snacks.

    Boiled Saveloy Rings

    Deep Fried Sausage Rings

    Individual Steak Pies.

    Fish Cakes.

    Oven Fries.

    Sandwiches.

    Toasted Sandwiches.

  8. crackers and tea!

  9. ummm... i would recommend that you make veggie pizza it is really good and it is healthy

  10. I would stick with proteins if you are looking for late night snacks.  Make some protein snacks of some sort or have cheeses, milk, nuts, lil' smokies or something like that.  Protein is best for late night and being healthy.
