  1. I would stick with one of the mixed veggie curries, or a spinach dish, nothing fried-no samosas or pakoras!  a fish curry if you check and ask how it's cooked or daal (lentils).  good luck!


  2. Indian vegetarian food is generally healthy if too much oil and salt is not used in preparation. Make sure you add turmeric, ginger and garlic - turmeric is an antiseptic, ginger is brilliant for digestion and garlic is known to reduce cholesterol. For the weight conscious, Idli (steamed rice cake from south India) and dhokra (similar item but with gramflour, from Gujarat) are excellent choices. Variety is endless as long you stick to the low salt-oil regime.

  5. As jo jo says - chicken tikka & boiled rice - but it will be so boring you may as well not bother.

  9. Vegetable balti, boiled rice.or biriani which is mostly rice. Small amount of naan bread( only small though)

    Poppadoms are really fattening!!! No no to them.

  11. Cooked vegetable curries are all very health if no coconut is used.

    Also lentils are healthy.

    Then Sarson ka saag

    Fish cooked the Bengali way, not fried, but boiled in sauce.

    Or just what they call Fish- Jhol.

  14. My local Indian does me a low fat lamb madras(without oil). I have this with plain boiled rice, and a green salad.
