Question:

Healthy weight to become pregnant?

I know there is no specific, and I do not think it is wrong for someone who is overweight to become pregnant. But my personal choice I was to feel healthy and be at a healthier weight when I do become pregnant. I've been overweight since I was little, I'm 5'3 and I weigh 260lbs, I want to be at about 140 lbs when I conceive. I'm 22 now and would like to start trying to conceive in about a year so that we could have our baby when my husband and I are 24. Do you think we can do it? Do you have any suggestions for me to lose the weight?

  1. good for you!! it is just about self control...you don't have to cut out all snacks n candy's you just need to limit it. If you want to splurge then make up for it with eating an extra healthy dinner. And you are aloud a bad day or free day don't beat yourself up for it just start fresh the next day. Eat often (small healthy snacks...carrots, nuts, fruits) try not to eat 2 hours before bed and make sure you get some kind of exercise. even if its just a walk or something small.  Best of luck to you! if you need a boost or someone to talk to feel free to email me. Im not miss healthy. i am 180 and working my way down to 130 so i feel you!

  2. Hey girl..I know exactly how you feel (although I am not trying to conceive). I have always had a problem with my weight and recently I started a diet of high protein low carbs (something like the Atkins diet) and lots of water, walking/running and crunches. I feel great and so far I've lost about 15lbs in a month. I cut out snacking during the day and switched to a bowl of fruit or yogurt and I don't eat anything after 7pm.

I personally haven't had a problem and haven't consulted my doctor yet and decided that if I get to where I can't lose any more weight then I will then and go from there. I'm also 5'3 and my highest was about 225 and I just want to get healthier.

Good luck with your diet and TTC!

  3. Watch what you eat and walk a lot.  Eat salads and veggies, sandwiches with whole grain bread and cut back on pasta (try to use a whole grain pasta when you do.)  Instead of parking close to the store, park a little ways back and as you get used to walking, try parking farther back.  Any amout of activity will help...

  4. That's a lot of weight that you want to lose. I think you should talk to your family doctor and see if there is any diet that they can recommend. You don't want to loose too much too quickly, that isn't good for the body. And I understand that you want to lose the weight before getting pregnant. It will lessen your chances of gestational diabetes and high blood pressure which could both cause complications to a pregnancy. Good Luck though!

  5. eat smaller meals (correct portion) alot of ppl I know have used weight watchers with much sucess. and lots of exercise. I really recommend losing the weight before you get pregnant. I am 5'8 and was 245 when I get pregnant, where I loved my body while I was pregnant it was really difficult. It was hard to find maternity clothes, my back started to hurt really early and I ended up w/ severe preeclampsia at 31 weeks and had to deliver my baby 9 wks early and she spent 3 wks in the NICU, we were very lucky everything turned out ok, but it might not be the same. being overweight is a very common precurser. It's not a guarantee you would get it from being heavy, just a very strong chance, It is a very scary sickness.

  6. I didnt personally do this.. but my aunt has lost 80 pounds. I think its been 7-10 months since she started her diet. Shes on some really strict diet. I think it might be from weight watchers or something. (Certain foods are free and stuff like that) She is eating a lot of green beans, spinach, whole wheat cereal, drinking lots of water. Healthy stuff like that. She goes for at least a half hour walk every day and recently bought an exercise bike to use on rainy days. I think that if you find something that works for you you can definetely do it.
