Question:

Hearing the heartbeat?

I had a previous miscarriage & this happened at around 7 weeks. The doctor that I talked to said the heartbeart should have been seen on the ultrasound at this time.

I'm now almost 12 weeks with my 2nd attempt at having a child. I'm really worried about going in for my first ultrasound.

How early did you get to SEE your baby's heart beating? How early did you get to HEAR the heartbeat?

I'm sure I'm worrying for nothing.. as this pregnancy seems to be more within the normal ranges of morning sickness & the such, but I can't help it. I'm sure those of you who experienced a miscarriage the first time, were just as worried w/the 2nd pregnancy.

Thanks, in advance. :)

  1. First of all...good luck!!  I am sure everything will be fine!

I heard the heartbeat before I saw it.  My first dr. visit wasn't until 10 weeks and we were fortunate to pick up the heartbeat then.  I went in for an ultrasound the next week and was able to see the heartbeat as well.

With my first pregnancy, we didn't hear the heartbeat until I was 12 weeks and I didn't have an ultrasound until 20 weeks so we could definitely see it by then.

From what I understand, 10 weeks is technically the earliest it can be detected with a Doppler.  At 12 weeks it should be no problem.  Also at 12 weeks...you would be amazed at how "developed" those little people really are and you should also be able to see the heartbeat quite clearly!

    Best wishes!!

  2. I first saw it at 8 weeks when I had to go to the ER for bleeding.  I heard it at 10 weeks.

  3. i went to my first ultrasound at 11 weeks and my heartbeat at 17 weeks,.  good luck with everything im sure it will be fine!

  4. at five weeks w/ the introvaginal sonogram.and w/ regular sonogram at 8 weeks.thats the one w/ the jelly  in ur belly,

  5. I seen my first sons at 13 weeks (that was the 1st ultrasound) and my second sons at 7 weeks (1st ultrasound) and both were strong.  This time around I was 9 weeks at the first ultrasound and seen a strong beating heart.  I didn't hear the heartbeats until later with the doppler, for some reason the doppler just couldn't pick it up.

  6. With my first baby, I saw the heartbeat at my first ultrasound at 19 weeks.  I heard the heartbeat at 9 weeks.

With my second baby, I heard the heartbeat and saw the heartbeat on the same day, which was when I was 8 weeks.

I also had a miscarriage, so I was very worried.  My doctor also monitored me a little more closely and I had more ultrasounds.  I had one at 5 weeks, 8 weeks, 11 weeks and 19 weeks.  With my first baby, I only had 1 ultrasound.

But, all is well, I have a very healthy 10 week old son.

Congrats and try not to worry too much!
