Question:

Heart Surgery?

My mom is having surgery for her heart, her heart rate goes up to 160 and then down.

She said she was going to take medicine for about a month but she couldn't because she's allergic of it and says she's taking a surgery that's around 4-5 hours.

The only thing I know is it has something do with the electricity in the heart, can anyone tell me or help me find out what kind of surgery she's having.

Also, if I should be concerned.

  1. It sounds as if the surgery is either Radio Frequency Ablation or open heart to deactivate either the AV node or the SA node.

It's not possible to guess what kind of surgery-not enough information, no EKGs, no definitive history.

You might want to read about Paroxysmal Tachycardia and Supraventricular Tachycardia.

    Why not ask the Cardiologist?

  2. I do not know your mom's symptoms however, I have a website that identifies different Heart Rhythm Abnormalities. If you can find her specific problems then you can figure out what she has and how to treat it or simply ask her doctor. I hope your mom's surgery goes well and I hope she feels better soon.
