Heart beat at 9 weeks?

I had my first prenatal visit at 9 weeks. My doctor found the heart beat and it was very strong. She said this was a very good sign but I was wondering if anyone has heard the heart beat this early and still had a miscarriage? I want to go buy some pregnancy books but am still scared of something happening before the end of the first trimester and don't want to waste the money.

  1. The risk of a miscarriage goes down once you have seen the heartbeat. However it does still happen. I've had many friends and family members who have miscarried at 12 weeks and even 17-18 weeks. I had a perfect pregnancy, until my water broke at 24 weeks, and ended up giving birth at 24 weeks 4 days. He lived for 26 days... so things can happen, they're rare but they do happen.

  2. There's a risk of something happening through your entire pregnancy, anything could happen. But i have known several where these things do happen after hearing the heartbeat. Your first three months are your most critical and then after that your risk goes down significantly. But sure buy some books as long as you're healthy and do everything right, you should be just fine....stop worrying, don't stress yourself out for that in itsself can cause problems!!!!

  3. I understand your concern about miscarriage. I personally went through two miscarriages myself at 7 weeks and 13 weeks. Unfortunately, miscarriage can happen at any point of the pregnancy, but the risks go down drastically after first trimester. I don't think you should worry about having a miscarriage especially if there are no warning signs (severe pain, contractions, bleeding). But even bleeding is not necessarily a sign of miscarriage- I thought i would lose my third baby because i had bleedings for several months, but she was born very healthy. Just focus on the positive side- the heartbeat is there, the baby is developing and everything will be fine.

  4. I went for my eight/nine week check up and they found the heart beat.  Like you, the heart beat was very strong.  Hearing the heartbeat reduces your chance of miscarriage. I don't think you'll have a miscarriage.  In another 3 weeks you'll be over your first trimester.

Don't hesitate to buy books, I've got two.  =]

    Congrats!

  5. It is normal to be scared, but since you have heard the heart beat, I would say it is ok to at least buy yourself one more baby books, I would recommend "What to Expect when your Expecting" If will answer a lot of questions that your going to have. Congratulations, and try to enjoy your pregnancy, it will be over before you know it, and you will miss it!

  6. i went to doctor at 9 weeks as well, he told me about the heartbeat of my baby and said it was very good, now lets hope everything goes well and we can be happy in a few months with our new baby!!! Congratulations by the way...!!!
