about 2 weeks after giving birth via c-section, my heart has been doing weird things, I feel like I am going to faint and that it is skipping beats and palpitating I also get tightness in my chest, the first time it happened I called paramedics, they checked me out and said my blood pressure was fine the next time it happened it wasn't so intense, but I went to the ER they did xrays EKG and blood work and said they found nothing but their best guess was that it was stress from lack of sleep and I was moving things to a new apartment adn the body adjusting from pregnancy. after it happened for the 3rd time (which was the least intense of them all) I made an appointment with a cardiologist

It hasn't happened in a week, but I still feel a "butterfly" feeling in my chest

has this happened to anyone else out there? Just asking until I can see my cardiologist

  1. I had these same symptoms and my Dr found through blood work that I was anemic. My heart tests and scans came back normal as well. Have your Dr do a complete workup.

  2. I got that when I was prego and after. When you get pregnant your blood volume nearly doubles. So your heart has to adjust. Same thing after you have the baby, your blood volume goes down so your heart has to adjust again. I had the same problem and talked to my doctor and OB about it, they both said the same thing.

    Don't worry :-)

  3. There are some medical condition that can happen after pregnancy. You are doing very well visiting the cardiologist. Sometime an EKG and physical examination are normal but when the cardiologist does the Holter the condition can be seen. The Holter is like portable EKG machine that senses your cardiac activity for all the day ( 24 hours), the doctors has then a register and is able to see any change in your heart during the day or night. If you need it, he/she will order some medication for you.

    Good luck and get well!

  4. well, i dont know anything about it having to do with pregnancy, but i had that happen to me back in december.  i was sooo stressed out doing that time (close friend dying, just reciently engaged, finals, holidays, lack of money, 2 jobs, not sleeping....)  apparently it all hit me at once.  i was having panic attacks suddenly.  i had never had one before.  at first my dr ruled out thyroid issues (thats in my family and the symptoms can be similar), and then made me wear a 24 hour heart monitor to rule out heart issues.  turned out to just be panic attacks.  he offered me meds, but i didnt take them.  apparently, if you actually NOTICE the palpitations, you will have a tendancy to feel them more!  you brain is supposed to block them out and we all tend to have them regularly, but just not feel them, but when you get run down, you might start suddenly, and then it stresses you out MORE cause it scares you and you dont know whats going on and it just esclates from there.  just my personal experience and dr's notes.

  5. i had that when pregnant my OB just said it was panic attacks
