Heart of Midlothian boss wants win for his birthday
Heart of Midlothian manager Jim Jefferies is targeting a fourth straight win in the Scottish Premier League as his ideal present for his 60th birthday.
The former Kilmarnock manager will reach the milestone on Monday 22 November and will be hoping that Hearts can add the scalp of Hamilton Academical to their recent wins against fierce rivals Hibernian, Celtic and St Johnstone to maintain their grip on third
place in the SPL.
Hearts will take on Accies at Tynecastle on Saturday 20 November, and Jefferies admits that the game is the most important thing on his mind, ahead of his birthday.
He told reporters, "I might not live until Monday. It's a few days away, nothing planned. Somebody might have something planned for me, but we'll have to wait and see. Three points would be the best present.
"The confidence is high at the moment, what we've got to do is make sure we don't get carried away. This is a tough league. Any team on their day is capable of turning up and putting one over you. We had that a couple of weeks ago against Kilmarnock (in a 3-0
loss). We responded brilliantly and we've got to make sure it doesn't happen again."
While Jefferies is edging towards the age at which most people retire, he admitted that he has no plans to walk away from the sport he loves in the near future.
He added, "There might come a day when I wake up and say 'that's it, I've had it, I don't enjoy it any more', but that's not happening at the moment. It's not easy to put a date on it, you just have to wait and see how things go."
Though Hearts are in third, their position is a fragile one. Motherwell are just a point behind, with Inverness Caledonian Thistle a further point back. Dundee United are also just five points behind the Edinburgh-based club.
