Heartening to see youngsters fight, says Darren Sammy – Cricket News Update
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DJG-Sammy-c1382, the West Indies skipper, is jubilant with the kind of spirit his team has shown in last 18 months, and being in the presence of some extra-ordinary young players, he is optimistic about the future of cricket in the Caribbean.
West Indies remained a massive force in international cricket during the 1970s and 80s. The islands produced a number of threatening fast bowlers, who terrorized batsmen all across the globe. Slowly but gradually, cricket in the Caribbean
deteriorated and untill recently, it was at its worst.
However, since the last couple of years, there have been shades of improvement with the emergence of some talented youngsters and cricket analysts believe that if the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) can get rid of its internal politics,
it can surely become one of the best teams of the world again.
Sammy understands that his team has not won a lot of matches off-late but the guys have played some very good cricket which is heartening. In the recent times, West Indies has played against some of the stronger teams of the world
and have given them a tough time. The all-rounder especially mentioned his team’s showings in India last year.
"The only thing that has not been happening is the victories. We've been playing good, competitive cricket against strong sides like India and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 a run for their money, but we did
that,” he expressed.
Sammy feels that his team is still a touch inexperienced and this is the reason they have lost a number of matches from winning positions. The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 captain knows that in order to regain the pride at the highest stage of the
game, his team needs to perform well on consistent basis.
The all-rounder added, "The problem is that we keep losing key moments in matches. One bad session keeps costing us. Champion teams seize the moment but we keep having a bad session where we might lose five wickets in an hour. We
just need to cut that out. Once we eliminate those bad sessions then we'll make progress."
