Question:

Heartless war photographers?

I just watched a video, which showed some bomb damage in the South Ossetia conflict. It showed an injured, bleeding woman, in some rubble. I notice a lot of media outlets are now carrying a photo of her in their online articles.

The video though, while focused on her, also revealed showed numerous photographers standing away from her, taking pictures as she reached out her hands for help. The video was only about 20 seconds long, and in that time not one of those photo journalists went to help her.

Why?

  1. They work for Fox News.

  2. I don't care if they are 'there for the story' I think it is disgusting

and revolting. I always remember seeing a picture taken by a

photog in the Darfur famine of a baby about 18 months old just

skin and bones lying there with a vulture beside it pecking at it trying to eat it. It won some kind of award. I am pleased to say that the

photographer was killed later in some bomb explosion. His friends

tried to justify him standing there taking the photo by saying well after he took the photo he took the kid to the hospital but he died anyway. I can't imagine anything more heartless and revolting than watching a vulture trying to eat a dying baby.

  3. I have a hard time with it too.  The thought, I think, is they are just there to report the story-not get involved.  Sounds similar to the 'Nuremburg defense' of "just following orders" to me.  As a human being I would try to help, as I think there would be a karma effect later in life for just watching someone suffer when you could help if not in harms way.

  4. They are there to tell a story, can't get involved.

Most of them are trained but yet it takes a human to want to help. Will never forget Kevin Carter. He did what was "suppose" then killed himself over it.Journalists have(most of them) kids and families at home, they have to think on that too. What you should be asking is where is United Nations that absorbs billions of dollars every year for security meetings and yet does nothing.

By the way,as a person I know where you are coming from. Can we understand it - I doubt.

Just looked at this article, please take a look...what you are asking doesn't have an answer

P.S.Cat's mother - he wasn't killed,he killed himself after received the award for the picture,he wasn't able to bare his actions. Two dead when one could have saved both but for the heinous "training" journalists pass

P.S.This is for Cat's mother too, sorry she touched a note...I know it looks horrible but this is what is HAPPENING every single day.How can you judge that person when I am sure you haven't stepped foot in Africa? My child is 6 years old and we was there twice already on volunteer mission because of photos like this. Please look at your life before you says such a big words.Don't you think as I mother I wanted to bring all the undeveloped kids I met?Can I - NO.I do what I can with taking my vacation money to volunteer there and teach my child better but will never judge a person they way you did.You have no idea the hopeless feeling you get.Kevin payed with his life for this mistake, wat else people want?

  5. Because they'd rather "get the scoop" then actually help someone.
