the scenario: your science class is going on a field trip. there will be no ice chest to keep drinks cold and no microwave in which to heat things. what insulating material would you use to....wrap a container that would best keep a cold beverage cold and a hot beverage hot?

  1. Don't know about the website bit.

    Foam/polystyrene or a vacuum container would be the best option to keep both col and hot beverages cold and hot.

    Heat gain and loss are both slowed down by these materials as they contain either no air (vacuum) to transport heat to/from the outside to the beverage, while foam/polystyrene have air pockets that are locked into place, acting like a vacuum preventing rapid heat transfer.

    Examples of this is that a of a foam cup for coffee or a milkshake.


  2. to keep a cold beverage cold wrap it in the container with salt and ice.

    for hot beverage use the insulated container.
