Heat may hold interest in Eddy Curry
According to an NBA executive, the Miami Heat may be interested in acquiring beleaguered New York Knicks centre Eddy Curry if he is released by the middle
of the season.
The executive, who served as a source for a report from Alan Hahn of
Newsday, predicts that the Heat will pursue the former Thornwood High School standout.
"One NBA exec thinks Heat will quickly sign Curry if/when he's waived in March. His playoff drought (504 games) could end b4 Knicks does," wrote Hahn on his Twitter
page.
Curry, who was drafted fourth overall by the Chicago Bulls in the 2001 NBA Draft, has played a total of ten games for the Knicks in the past two years. Last year,
he appeared in seven games and averaged 3.7 points and 1.9 rebounds.
Off the court, last year was equally tumultuous for Curry. In January of 2009, Curry's former limo driver accused him of sexual harassment. David Kuchinsky, who
worked as Curry's chauffeur from October 2005 to October 2008, complained that Curry attempted to solicit g*y s*x from him.
According to Manhattan federal court documents, Kuchinsky said that he was asked to perform "humiliating tasks outside the scope of his employment, such as cleaning
up and removing dirty towels [into which Curry had ejaculated] so that his wife would not see them."
Kuchinsky also alleged that Curry made racial slurs at him.
In an interview with the
New York Post, Curry responded by saying that he was "shocked" at the allegations. "It's false, and everyone who knows me knows I'm not a racist... I've never made a comment like that, playing, or nothing. . . . That's incredible, man."
Less than a month after the complaint was filed, Curry's ex-girlfriend Nova Henry and infant daughter Ava were found dead in their Chicago home. Curry's son 3-year
old son Noah was found unharmed. Fredrick Goings, a lawyer who has had an on-and-off relationship with Henry, has since been charged with the crime.
Curry is currently nursing a hamstring injury. According to a report from the
New York Post, he has been medically cleared to practice with the team.
Curry posted his best season with the Knicks during the 2006-07 season. That year, he averaged 19.5 points per game and 7.0 rebounds while shooting 57.6 percent
from the field.
