  1. let me help you this pool refers to billiards good luck man

  2. I may as well answer the question, since I know. A pool can be any kind of pool, no matter what kind of crazy shape it is. A lap pool is a rectangular-shaped pool, at least one lane wide, ideal for swimming laps. People pretty  much call any rectangular pool a 'lap pool', no matter the actual length, but a real competition pool is either 25 yards or 50 meters long (or occasionally 25 meters, but that's a bit rare-- soemtimes pools are made so that if you put the lane lines in one way, it's 25 yards, but if you put them perpendicular, it's 25 meters). Competitive swimming has different seasons, short course and long course. Short course has events in yards (100 yd. free, e.g.) and long course has events in meters (100 m. free, e.g.). Anyway, if you saw the term 'heated lap pool' in an ad for a hotel or a fitness club, you can feel pretty confident that people swim laps in it versus mill around splashing each other. A lap pool is also likely to be bigger than a rec pool...Usually you'll find that it's 6 to 10 lanes wide (a lane is wide enough for people to pass each other going in opposite directions, can't remember the actual normal measurement).

I think you people need to lighten up...When the word 'pool' comes up in the title of your question, Yahoo suggests this category, and since people apparently don't know what snooker is, they think they're in the right category. Instead of trying to make the questioner feel dumb like everyone else is doing, I gave an informative, correct response, and got a thumbs-down. Also, this would've been a good question to go in the Swimming & Diving category, but the algae questions don't really belong there. Most swimmers don't know anything about outdoor rec pools. They know strokes and times and drills. Can people just be polite?

Ooh, goodie, another thumbs-down. You guys are the best. See you around. Have fun in this joke of a category. A few questions for you guys to think on just in case it's another day or two before there's a new open question:

    1. What's better: pool or snooker?

    2. What button do I press to hit the ball?

    3. Why can't I see the pool table?

    4. If I make the eight and scratch, do I lose?

    5. If I make the eight on the break, do I win?

    6. If I miss the nine-ball but it goes in another pocket, does it count?

    7. What the heck is snooker?

    8. What kind of cue should I get? I don't want to spend more than $150?

p.s. Fred, do you know anything about pool or do you just police the questions for miscategorization?

  3. A lap pool is normally one lane wide often with an artificial current to swim against.

I think this should be in "Swimming"!

  4. Lap pool has the strips and ropes are rectangle made specifically for laps. Other pools are often oddly shaped and shallow for kids to play in or water games like water polo.

Just an FYI "Snooker & Pool" is in reference to billards, not swimming.

  5. this is the Snooker and Pool section, so how would we know?

  6. "Lap pool" is when you are required to walk around the table 3 times before shooting or give up ball in hand to your opponent.
