The split zone climate control readout still shows an increase in fan speed when I try to adust but the fan doesn't work. Then for no reason it runs. The ambient temp is about 32C when this happens. The A/C works well when the fan is O.K. and brings it down to about 6C....If it's the fan motor resister, where do I find it? It's a December 1996 reg U.K. model with f.s.h. I've had it for years with no other real probs.

  1. the resister is at fault BMW ones just have mind of there own when they play up! i think its up the drivers side of the blower box on that year.

  2. this happened to my bmw. were you turn the heater up and down its the unit itself that needs changing. about £25 from bmw breakers.

  3. I think you may find that the motor may be on its way out. If it was the resistor it would still work but only on full speed.

  4. I had this with a 98 323i coupe.  No fan in very hot weather, thus no cooling.  An aircon service may solve it.
