Heath Slocum aims to repeat his 2009 performance
The Barclays Championship tees off next and Heath Slocum is once again an underdog for the event. He, however, hopes to repeat the feat he achieved in 2009. Heath came into the playoffs with a ranking of 124 but his chances are very slim this time.
Slocum has had a torrid season so far and the worst of all, his tour card for the next season is in doubt as well. Winning at the Barclays would be extremely nice but he must come up with a decent enough performance to earn some valuable amount of money.
So far this season, he has played in 24 events and made the cut in fifteen of those, with no top-ten finishes. The prize money he earned this season is $424,215, which is way too low.
Heath himself knows that he must perform well without thinking too much about his three-year old performance.
When Slocum won the playoff in 2009, his daughter was 20 months old but now she is 4 years old and he feels that time has moved on quickly since that victory.
He knows that every single shot that he makes from now on will be really important, as his future now depends on the upcoming months.
Heath had beaten the likes of Tiger Woods, and Padraig Harrington back then. However, he is clueless as to what happened after that and why his career has been on a decline since then.
He did not even qualify for any major championships this season. There fall series are yet to go and he has a few chances to earn money but he does not want to take any risks for that.
Slocum hopes to become a better golfer by getting more consistent and consistency comes with time.
“Would I have liked to have been different and shot straight up and that be the launching point to the next big thing or a more consistent top-50 player? Absolutely,” Slocum said.
“But I mean, those are still the goals. I have stumbled a few times, learned from it. I am going to be a better golfer. It is just taken longer, obviously, but my goal now is just to be patient”.
