Heath Slocum gets into contention at the True South Classic
Heath Slocum fired a five-under par 67 in round two of the True South Classic to take the share of the 11th position, prior to the bad light conditions that led to the suspension of the play, on Friday, July 20, 2012.
Slocum started off early in the morning, as he also had to finish off the final10 holes of his round one. In total, he played 28 holes on day two because of the inclement weather and bad light delays.
While finishing off the first round, he managed to score two birdies prior to moving to the 10th tee, where he was scheduled to start his second round.
“Well, it was a long day. Played quite a few holes. There were 28,” the four-time PGA Tour winner said. “Got off to a good start first thing in the morning. I just played pretty solid”.
Through the first 11 holes that he played, he remained at even par for the round because of two birdies against the same number of bogeys.
Thereafter, he picked up some pace and fired four birdies along with an amazing eagle against a lone bogey to go eight-under par while entering the weekend.
“For the most part, I hit a lot of fairways, hit some greens, took advantage of a couple par 5s, and actually just made a couple of putts that I wasn't kind of supposed to make,” he said.
“At the end of the day, at 8 under, in a good position for the weekend. I mean, it's Mississippi in July. It's going to be hot. It's going to be a little wet. So my advice is just to drink up. That's what I'm trying to do”.
He is now five strokes behind the clubhouse leader Billy Horschel an impressive 9-under par 63 for a 13-under par two-round score.
Matt Bettencourt and Jason Bohn were tied for the second place with a 12-under par overall score each, while Bohn still had to complete the final nine holes of his second round.
Steven Bowditch took the sole fourth spot with an 11-under par 36-hole score.
