Heath Slocum has a strategy for The Viking Classic 2010
The Viking Classic 2010 is underway which will continue till the 3rd of October. Various players have arrived for this tournament and like many others, Heath Slocum and his Viking Classic game strategy is second to none.
After Heath Slocum was not selected for the Ryder Cup line-up, the player decided to take part in the Viking Classic. The 36-year-old is a 2005 Viking Champion and a 3-time PGA Tour winner as well. His current goal for this year is to gather the upcoming
three events bring more consistency in his game, which he lacked last year. He attained his biggest career victory at the Barclays and finished at the 8th place at the FedEx Cup.
Critics say that Slocum’s performance in 2009 hasn’t been up to the mark. Slocum missed 13 cuts in 2009 - statistics that prove that Slocum’s first three quarters from last year were just not his cup of tea. Comparing his last years’ performance, 2010 has
been far better for him. The player has only missed 2 cuts out of 22 events this season.
What matters in golf is the ability to putt which gathers pars. Slocum is aiming for a good start at the Hawaii event with his three forecasted wins.
After the Viking Classic, the 5-foot-8-inch player will be taking part in Disney and the week event and is aiming to win the tournaments. He defined enjoyable by saying that his father would hold his bag for this week along with his brother-in-law who would
work as his caddie at the Disney event. His family and friends would also make their way in the crowd to support Slocum. The player believes that it’s sometimes better to step out of the tough routine and stop worrying too much.
His game strategy is simple and to-the-point. The man from Mississippi says that if a player focuses on playing short and crooked, he holds the tournament for a very short time. Slocum on the other hand believes that his strategy would be to drive straight
which is the way he always does. Slocum is known to hit straight but since he isn’t the only one who goes straight in the fields, he would be using his putting ability to outdo the others. Slocum believes that he usually ends up debating about a straight drive
or a short game when his putter turns up good, which is tough.
Regarding the Ryder Cup issue, Slocum is upset about the fact that he wasn’t selected for the team. The Ryder Cup has been his favourite for a long time so being a part of the team is on his resolution list. He favours the US team to win the Ryder Cup and
says that the young bunch is a good combination. Slocum believes that they would play a fearless game and would play the role of an underdog quite easily.
The 36-year-old admits that although he didn’t make it to the Ryder Cup, he did make it to the Viking Classic which is good. He will be focusing on winning the current event after which he will cruise off to win the Disney event.
