Heath Slocum playing for cash at McGladrey Classic
Heath Slocum is in hot waters at the moment. He is suffering immensely when it comes to earning the card for the 2013 season.
He needs to earn a substantial amount this week at the McGladrey Classic in order to retain his tour card.
This season has been a disappointing one for the American. It has been very unpredictable for the 38-year-old this season. He made most of the cuts but overall his finishes have been very pathetic at the tournaments.
Out of the twenty seven events that he has played, the four times PGA Tour winner made the cut on seventeen occasions. However, he has not finished even once inside the top-ten this season.
Although he has three top-twenty five finishes but they are certainly not enough to retain his card for the next season.
So far he has earned $509,558 and stands at the 140th position in the money earned list. He needs a very good finish at the McGladrey Classic to have any chance of playing on the PGA Tour.
McGladrey Classic has been a lucky charm for Slocum - twenty four months ago he was hoisting the trophy. However, it has been very long since he last played at the McGladrey Classic and he needs to sharpen up his clubs properly.
He was talking to the journalist on the eve of the event. One of the persons asked what his plans are if he fails to earn sufficient money.
Slocum said that he has absolutely clueless as to where he will be playing after that. “I had no idea,” he shrugged.
He knows exactly what he needs to do but he also knows that his task is not an easy one, as there will be some big names playing on the field.
“The best players in the world play out here. It’s not easy, but I know what I have to do and I feel fine,” he said.
He needs to earn sufficient money that will take him inside the top-125 in the money earned list and that would mean, finishing somewhere inside the top-15.
