Heathcote defeat Yellow Cab in Monty Waterbury Quarterfinal: 17-12 – Polo Update
Tommy Biddle delivered a superb performance and was the real architect of the victory, as Heathcote powered a commanding 17-12 win over Yellow Cab in the quarter-final match of the Monty Waterbury Polo Cub being held at the Bridgehampton Polo Club on August
6, 2011.
Biddle, who notched eight goals in the crucial fixture, was highest scorer of the match. Speaking to the media after the quarter-final, he said that they rendered outstanding performances and it was quite an enchanting game. He stated, “The team played great
today. It’s so enjoyable to play with these guys. The teamwork was right where we wanted it to be.”
The team of Heathcote earned three handicap goals before the game opening and established their dominance over the match. However, Nacho Figueras scored the first goal of the day and brought Yellow Cab into the score-net. It was not the complete action,
as the strikers from Heathcote started attacking and ruined the defensive line of Yellow Cab. Nick Manifold managed a couple of goals while his team-mate Tommy Biddle scored off a long penalty shot to finish the first set of play at 6-1 advantage.
Amazingly, the Heathcote foursome obtained six goals while holding Yellow Cab only for a single score. At the start, Manifold notched his second goal while his team-mate Naco Taverna accounted for two goals. In the later time, Biddle scored off a pair of
long penalty shots and put Yellow Cab under heavy pressure. Figueras did score the solitary goal from Yellow Cab as they were trailing by ten goals after two chukkas of play, 12-2.
In the third set of play, the team Yellow Cab cranked up their offence and scored four goals while limiting Heathcote for a single successful effort. Jeffrey Garber unfolded the third frame while his team-mate Luis Escobar nailed in a couple of goals. Soon
after that Michel Dorignac added his first goal and decreased the Heathcote edge down to a six scores. Despite strong defence from Yellow Cab, Biddle managed a solitary goal from the penalty shot to maintain their lead, 13-6.
In the second half of play, the pace of the game reduced and both teams exchanged one goal in the seven and half minutes of play. Biddle scored off a drastic shot for Heathcote while Dorignac did it from the field effort.
In the second last chukka, Escobar chipped in a goal at the beginning but it was answered by a couple of penalty conversions from Biddle. Heathcote was holding an eight goal edge with one period left to play.
The Yellow Cab attack came alive in the final seven minutes of play when Dorignac scored four goals. On the other side, the resilient defence from Yellow Cab limited Heathcote’s strikers only a single goal in the hands of Naco Taverna but to no avail. Heathcote
won the mega game at 17-12 and moved into the semi-final stage.
