  1. answer: hmmm - I would say longstanding in that pagans of Northern Europe and England didn't have a name for their religion - it simply was.  Asatru is an Icelandic term that came into play in the revival movement in both Iceland, Europe and Texas in the 1970s-80s.  Some don't care for the term because the main aspects of Asatru focus on the Icelandic paganism while some want to focus on continental Europe paganism and others want to focus on Anglo-Saxon paganism.

I prefer the term Heathen because it's encompassing of all three paths.

  2. It's something I embrace because it helps me stick to secularism

  3. I don't really know, but I like the sound of it.

  4. ROTFL well thank ya!

That depends. Heathen as a label technically came about in 11th century.

Was it the ACTUAL label? No. There was no label. Cultural beliefs were assumed. But h**l, we had to come up with something and we didn't want to be sucked into the Lewellyn train so we stay away from "pagan" will all we can and cling to Heathen, which is a Germanic based word used for Germanic pagan. We think it's fitting.
