Heather Watson: “Lots of times I feel quite lonely” – Tennis News
World number 49, Heather Watson, demolished the rule of ‘experience brings glory’ in the latest season and rushed her way up to the Top-50 category after starting the year from outside the Top-100.  She registered a record breaking
run at the HP Japan Women’s Open in Osaka; won the title and ended a 24-year drought by becoming the first British lady to capture a premier Women Tennis Association trophy since 1988.
However, the 20-year-old youngster faced a lot of off-court troubles throughout the season. She expressed them to the reporters of the Telegraph in following fashion, “Lots of times I feel quite lonely. I just want to go home and
see everybody, because I hardly get to see my friends and family. It's really tough, always living out of a suitcase. Playing your match, then going straight back to your hotel room - you're on your own a lot.”
She also offloaded her mother from the duty of coaching and felt a lot better by taking on responsibilities at her shoulder instead of being dependent on her mother. She stated, “Say if you're travelling with somebody, you're dependent
- I wouldn't even need to think about which gate I had to be at for a flight, because she would already be there. Left to your own devices, you're conscious of everything, and that's why I found it easier to be professional.”
Watson was a bit disappointed to be not chosen by the third ranked Briton, Andy Murray, as her mix doubles partner for London Olympics. However, she was glad to see her best friend, the 18-year-old Laura Robson, teaming up with
the 25-year-old Murray and ending up with a Silver Medal. She is currently the top ranked British lady in the Women Tennis Association and probably the biggest eye-catching character of the season.
She had a slow start to the season; lost three matches in a row but broke the shackles at the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami and didn’t look behind from that point. She made a name for herself in the Wimbledon; reaching the third
round and bowing out to the finalist of the tournament, Agnieszka Radwanska. Let’s hope the kid continues to shine bright and entertain the tennis fanatics in the following season.
