Heather Watson and Tim Henman visit the Royal Albert Hall to motivate youngsters – Tennis News
World number 49, Heather Watson, revisited the Royal Albert Hall Court, just after 24 hours from his exhibition contest known as Ladies Night. She went there to support the youngsters who require help for their education and sport.
The event was organized by Statoil’s Heroes of Tomorrow.
Former British number one, Tim Henman, was also present there. Kids were absolutely thrilled to meet two national heroes who spent the whole day helping them nurturing their tennis skills. It was a pleasant experience for the 20-year-old
Briton who recently enjoyed an excellent season that witnessed the first WTA title for a British woman in the past 24 years at Osaka. So, the last time Sara Gomer won Aptos in 1988, Watson wasn’t even born.
Watson confessed in a post-visit press conference, “The kids are so impressive. It's great for them to have this opportunity, to play on this amazing court, in this amazing arena, and they all look like they are having a lot of
fun. I try to be and I would love to be a role model for these kids and for them to have someone they can look up to.”
Henman said, “It's about trying to give kids the opportunity. We've got to make the game accessible. It is fantastic that Statoil are investing into the sport and when you see the enthusiasm, the ability and the talent, we've got
to make sure they have that chance to shine in the future.”
The Briton veteran also praised the booming compatriot Watson for her show at the professional field. Henman added that anything can be achieved through dedication, hard work and commitment. He stated that the youngster can keep
up the good work by maintaining good energy levels throughout the season with a combination of willpower and technique to succeed.
Henman who reached the career-high ranking of world number four hinted that his fellow compatriot could do better with her class, if she doesn’t get overconfident and keep her feet on ground.
New Year resolution for Watson includes the Top-20 finish to the 2013 season.
