Heather Watson receives acclaim from Lindsay Davenport – Tennis News
World number 103, Heather Watson, of Great Briton might be resting in her apartment after witnessing a third round exit from the Wimbledon Championships on Saturday but her fan base has definitely enhanced over the period and one
new member includes the former world number one, Lindsay Davenport.
Former Wimbledon Champion, Davenport, was confident to comment that the Briton booming starlet will definitely hit new heights in the world rankings soon. She might be just 20-year-old but her stamina and game style is aggressive
and she belongs to the Top-20 players list. World will see her there sooner or later.
Davenport commented, “I remember watching her last year and seeing her disappointment at not getting through [Watson fell in the first round to Mathilde Johansson]. She had an arm injury and it was a really devastating loss. But
I’ve seen her playing again this year and Heather looked more composed on court and she was playing the points a lot smarter. Getting to the third round this time was a huge step. It is all about progression. It will get her ranking much higher, so she can
get into more main draws and get more ranking points.”
Watson is having a spectacular season in 2012. She started off in Moorilla Hobart International competition and reached the first round stage from the qualifiers. She was dumped in the opening round of the Australian Open by the
winner of the tournament, Victoria Azarenka. She went out early in Pattaya and couldn’t qualify for Doha’s main round draw.
However, despite a meagre start, the Briton kept on improving and reached the third round of the Sony Ericsson Open at Miami and coupled the supreme run with a second round exit at Estoril where she started from the qualifiers
stage. Watson came all the way from the qualifiers of the French Open and powered down the Russian star, Elena Vesnina, in the opening round before losing out to the German tennis ace, Julia Goerges.
Wimbledon campaign was another enthralling ride for the right-handed Watson and she looks ahead for more triumphs in the upcoming tournaments.
