Question:

Heathrow Airport Terminal 5: From ground level to departure level quickest?

I need to get from the ground level (the one with baggage claim) to the check-in level. The reason is that I booked 2 separate flights, and I then need to get all the way to the check-in/baggage drop on the top floor. But on the maps that I have looked on, I can't find a way to get up there, other that leaving the terminal and then go over to the car park, then there take the elevator up and go that way.

I hope some one has a better solution, maybe I can hope that there is an escalator connecting the two levels.

  1. i would call the airport and ask them

  2. When you checkin for the first flight, show your booking information for the 2nd flight and ask them to check you and baggage through to your final destination.  Then you don't need to go land-side and can use flight connections to get your next flight.  As both flights are with British Airways (must be....that's the only airline at T5), checking you all the way through should be no problem.

If they won't/can't, then if you don't have baggage, then you can still make the checkin airside in the flight connections area.

If that's no good, then when you come out from baggage claim, walk straight ahead as if leaving the terminal.  Before you go outside, you'll see elevators on the left and right.  Take the elevator up to departures.Elevators are less than 1 minute walk from the exit from the baggage claim.  You don't actually go into the carpark.

If you have problems, ask - there are plenty of support staff in the terminal.  But ask for the "lift" - it's the word we British use for "elevator".

    Enjoy!
