Heating Buildings...Better Results With Nudism?

The news story goes:

A Swedish company plans to harness the body heat generated by thousands of commuters scrambling to catch their trains at Stockholm's main railway station and use it for heating a nearby office building

My question:

If everyone was nude, such as in a building, would that create even more heat? Clothing would act as a buffer to allowing much of the heat to escape. If there was an energy crisis, and your office building could harness all the body heat and re-circulate it around the building, would you do your part for the energy situation and be nude at the office? This is a tongue and cheek question, for the most part, but I am curious as to how far people would go to pitch in to save energy.

  1. Actually it is the opposite which occurs to me. We are told to dress warmly and crank down the thermostat in winter to save energy. But the real energy fiend for office buildings is air conditioning in the summer. Surely it would thus make sense to encourage nudity and set the thermostat a bit higher?

  2. Certainly I see the naked bodies giving off more heat, but naked people probably would want a slightly higher temperature to be comfortable. So I guess one cancels out the other. But it's much more fun being naked so lets do it!

    Go Natural, live naked.

  3. It would create more heat!  The only thing you need to remember is that you must only sit on the Xerox machine and not the paper shredder.  Ouch!  ZzzzooowwWWW!

  4. If you were nude inside a building during winter time, and without a source of heating, you'd probably be extremely cold. Since what we're trying to do here is be comfortable, you'd better wear clothing that keeps your body from losing body heat.  In this particular case, that swedish company is trying to harness the body heat from the people who wait for trains at the train station, rather than from the actual occupants of the building being heated.

Summertime is another story because if you're nude, you'd probably need less AC, as your clothing helps your body heat to build up.
