Heating to extreme temperatures?

I have always watched shows where they heat something up to 1200 degrees or higher, but I am confused on how they actually get that hot. How does lightening and the sun get so hot? How do they make the items that get up to the high temperatures?

  1. i'm guessing the lightning and the sun absorb enough energy to produce heat.

"The air in the core of a lightning bolt has been estimated to be heated to as much as 54,000°F (30,000°C). That happens to be about six times hotter than the surface of the sun."

    hope i helped. sorry if i didn't. :(
