Heat’s LeBron James and Rockets’ Goran Dragic named as the NBA Players of the Week
Miami Heat’s LeBron James and Houston Rockets point guard Goran Dragic have been named as the NBA ‘Players of the Week’ in the their respective conferences for the games played from April 2 to April 8, the NBA announced on Monday.
Goran Dragic is going to earn some money once his contract expires with the Houston Rockets at the end of the season. The point guard, who got a chance to show his mettle after Kyle Lowry got injured, has been phenomenal and coming
into Monday night, the Slovenian had double scoring figures in 18 consecutive games.
To put the icing on the cake, Goran has now been awarded the first weekly award in his career. The 6 ft 3 in guard led the Rockets to a 3-0 week, including wins over the likes of Chicago Bulls and the mighty Los Angeles Lakers.
Goran has very much been the reason behind the excellent late charge which has kept the Rockets in the playoff picture.
Dragic finished the week with averages of 20.7 points, 8.3 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 2.7 steals with his best performance came against the Lakers. Up against a powerful guard combo of Kobe Bryant and Ramon Sessions, Dragic erupted
with 26 points, 11 assists, 4 rebounds and 3 steals, leading the Rockets to a 112-107 win.
On the Eastern coast, the weekly award was grabbed by the usual suspect - LeBron James. This is the 36th time; King James has won the award in his career, the most by any player in NBA history, and the 5th
time in this season alone.
In a week when the Heat surrendered their 17 game home winning streak to the Memphis Grizzlies, James ensured that the South Beach franchise wins the other three against the Philadelphia 76ers, Oklahoma City Thunder and the Detroit
Pistons.
The small forward led the Heat in scoring in all four games played during the week, finishing it with an average of averaging 30.5 points, 5.8 boards, 5.5 assists, 2.25 steals in a team high 37.5 minutes while shooting 52.3 percent
from the floor.
Although his best performance came against the Sixers in the form of a season high 41 points, six rebounds and three steals, but the one that really mattered was against the Thunder. Up against Kevin Durant, his only contender
in the MVP race, LeBron scored a game-high 34 points, dished out 10 dimes, hauled down seven rebounds and made four steals, forcing KD into nine turnovers all the while.
