Heavy Iron Studios label the PlayStation Vita as a disaster waiting to happen
Sony are all set to release the PlayStation Vita to the world in the near future. By the first quarter of 2012, the entire world will be able to get their hands on the device. However, Lyle Hall and Matthew Seymour of the UFC trainer developer Heavy Iron
Studios feel that the Vita is a train wreck just waiting to happen.
In a recent interview, the duo were asked to express their opinions on the upcoming device. They responded by stating that the device is overpriced and that no one is going to be willing to pay such a high price for a handheld console. They also went on
to highlight the fact that with the Nintendo 3DS suffering such a massive price cut, there had to be a reason behind it and perhaps Sony needed to realize that.
When talking about the Vita and it’s ridiculous price, Hall said, "If people aren't willing to pay $249 for a Nintendo 3DS why would they pay $299 for Vita?"
He went on to add, "People don't want to carry more than one thing in their pocket, that's why Android and iPhone have done so well, they are the devices of choice, they offer multiple functions outside of gaming."
However, Hall then went on to admit that the Vita did boast some impressive hardware, which could tempt people to own one.
Hall added of Sony's portable, "The technology is sweet, I'm a huge fan of mobile technology, but I just don't know there's a market out there anymore for the hardware. I can't see why you would want to put a device out that only does games."
Sony are all set to debut the Vita in Japan before the end of the year, with the European and US market getting their hands on the device early in 2012. However, a number of analysts have gone on to suggest that the company is currently under a lot of pressure
to drop their price, and following the dramatic price cuts that the 3DS have undergone, the Vita will have to cave in.
Nonetheless, with less than a couple of months until the official launch of the Vita, Sony are really going to have to get their price for the new device right on the mark. If the company fails to do so, not only would they see unsatisfactory sales, but
they would also see game developers avoid the console altogether.
