Quantic Dream boss, David Cage, would welcome an approach from Sony to be a first-party studio but would also be open to other partnerships as well.
Anyone who has been playing video games or knows about the basic forces the video game industry runs on will know that console exclusive titles are what really sell on console over the other.
Multiplatform games are available on every console but console exclusive titles such as LittleBigPlanet, Killzone 3, Metal Gear Solid, Gran Turismo, Uncharted and others on the PlayStation 3 and Halo, Gears of War, Fable, Alan Wake and Forza Motorsport on
the Xbox 360 are what each console is identified with.
It is crucial for the platform holders to ensure that those titles which are exclusive for their console remain so. Sony has already lost the likes of Insomniac Games, the developers of the Resistance series, and will surely want to retain the rest.
One such studio is Quantic Dream, which was behind the unique interactive experience everyone knows as Heavy Rain, has now publically stated that if Sony wish to acquire them as a first-party studio then they would not oppose it but, rather, would welcome
the approach.
At the same time the studio also admitted that Sony was not the only option they were willing to consider and it would depend on the long term vision of the party that approach the studio.
David Cage, the co-founder of the studio, stated, “We’re open to all options, but again, we’re not a studio driven by money. It’s an important element, of course, but it’s not like ‘tell me how money you give me and I’m going to whatever you want.”
He continued to explain what the studio were looking for in a partner, “What matters to us is ‘what is the project, what is the long-term vision, do we share common vision for the studio?’...And if all this makes sense, then yeah, why not join Sony or another
partner. We’re open to all options.”
Mr. Cage did however add, “We are exclusive to Sony right now, so no, we only work on PlayStation 3.” However, if Sony does not tie up a deal in the near future that could change.
