Heavy injuries sour Queensland Reds victory against Western Force - Super Rugby News
The Super Rugby Number One ranked team, Queensland Reds’, victory against the Western Force, on June 11, have been hit by the large scale injuries to the squad. At least two highly rated players from the Reds have sustained severe injuries in the weekend’s
fixture and they are feared to miss the next clash against the Chiefs. Their fly-half Rod Davies was struck by a shoulder injury while Luke Morahan fell prey to a hamstring issue.
The Australian derby, Queensland Reds, has given an excellent performance in the current Super Rugby season. They earlier won 12 consecutive games before losing to the ACT Brumbies on June 4. The Reds came back strongly into the tournament to found the winning
track once again versus the Force. However, the victory has cost them with the possible exclusion of two front line players from their next match.
The Reds, who were facing many injuries before the game, have gotten deeper into troubled waters. They are left with only one match against the Chiefs on June 18 before the play-offs stages and they will be required to win the game to keep up with the top
spot. The South African derby, Stormers is only four points behind them on the point’s tables.
Talking to the media, the Reds coach, Ewen McKenzie, admitted that too many injuries were cause of worry for them to remain at the top of point’s tables. He added that, “We've got some work to do. It's no time to sit around patting yourself on the back.
You've just got to get on with it. No doubt we'll be finding some players and getting them incorporated, so that will be part of the process.”
He further said that Reds have got depth in their squad and they are expecting a few recoveries for the next game. He said, “We're into finding replacements again so that will give us something to do next week. We'll wait and see what the story is with Digby.
That will be a complete medical process there. He might or might not be available.”
The Reds will take on the chiefs on Saturday, June 18, in their last round match of the current Super Rugby season.
