Heavy rust on marine stainless steel. how to remove by chemical application?

  1. If you have heavy rust then it is not marine grade stainless steel. Most likely chrome plated steel. Dupont No. 7 Chrome Polish works very well.


  2. CLR works, citric acid works as well (coca-cola). Brush off most of it with a soft/medium plastic brush and use some of the solution/soda to get the deep deposits loosened up. Let it sit for about 10-15 minutes, but don't let it dry. Keep scrubbing until it's gone then get some M.A.A.S. metal polish or some Brasso to make it really shine (Mother's Z-ball works wonders as well, but you really have to get the big stuff off first)

  3. try coke.....

  4. try Naval Jelly. be careful using it. its made especially for rust removing. get it at most hardware stores.
