Hector Lombard reveals he was injured state during his last fight – UFC News
Hector Lombard, Ultimate Fighting Championship middleweight contender, revealed he was injured during his debut fight at UFC 149. The event took place in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Lombard’s defeat was considered disappointing by many, including but not limited
to UFC President Dana White.
Lombard, who was a long awaited contender following his excellent record in divisions of other fighting organisations, fell to Tim Boetsch, a foe that was being considered weak for the debutant.
“I want to let all my fans know. I fought my last fight injured. i wasn't 100% sure but i went to the doctors,” revealed Lombard through his Facebook profile.
He added, “I have a fractured sternum with torn cartilage, i got this injury in training for my fight with Tim Boetsch. I have to be out of training for 6weeks I should never have fought like that, but I didn’t want to let my fans and the UFC down, love
you all.”
Lombard has been an active fighter in PRIDE FC and Bellator. He was being considered among the best middleweight fighters around the world. Dana White was awaiting his debut at the UFC for years, believing Lombard will bring the required competition to the
division that has been ruled over for years by Anderson Silva, UFC middleweight champion.
Nevertheless, like many other fighters, Lombard debut fight did not go quite well. Instead of making White proud of calling him in the show, Lombard let him down by losing the show.
During the post-fight conference, White revealed that he would like Lombard to move to a lower division, at least for some time. According to White, Lombard could not make it and so he should consider going to a lower weight. By White’s recommendation, it
was clear that he does not want Lombard in the middleweight division anymore.
Lombard, who could have been the apple of the eye of the event, went down as just another overrated fighter. Most fans and analysts were disappointed over his performances, marking him as someone who just saw the real competition.
For now, Lombard might get a second chance to compete at the division but if he is unable to prove his mettle, White might take a stand against his weight.
